Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers help in a variety of ways, from entering data to maintaining our boats to collecting critical baseline data about the Bay. Friends of Casco Bay has trained more than 450 volunteers to monitor water quality or to clean oiled birds in the event of an oil spill. To get involved, please contact Citizen Stewards Coordinator Peter Milholland at (207)799-8574 or email us using the form below.
Office Help We can always use volunteers to help with data entry, mailings, word processing, etc. (knowledge of computers is helpful). These are great opportunities to learn about a small non-profit and to actively support a worthy cause.
Water Quality Monitoring Volunteers conduct water quality sampling at a designated site once a month from April through October. You must attend a 5-hour training session in March or April before you begin sampling. You will measure five parameters -- temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, and water clarity. Our volunteers have helped us build a strong, credible database, which helps local, state, and federal agencies make sound management decisions about Casco Bay.
Events You might staff a booth at a garden show, boat show, or waterfront festival or volunteer at our other annual events.
Intern ships Students involved in Service Learning regularly assist on a number of projects, from coastal cleanups to entering data to creating artwork for our publications. High school and college students interested in unpaid internships, which may fulfill community service or career experience requirements, should contact Citizen Stewards Coordinator Peter Milholland at 799-8574 or use the form to below. Openings are limited; we often fill our summer internship positions by the preceding February or March.

Volunteer Recognition At the close of our 15th Water Quality Monitoring season, Friends of Casco Bay recognized the work of 224 volunteers who donated more than 3,000 hours of service in 2007.
